Where & When: Fashion Edition

The best sales and fashion events around town for the week.

By McLean Robbins

July is the month for sales—nearly every store is celebrating summer with sales of at least 30 percent off. Here are are a few of our favorite selections from around town:

Ongoing
Can you say 65 percent off? Mauro Farinelli (839 Clarendon Blvd., Arlington; 703-647-9856) has slashed prices on names such as Vena Cava, Diesel, and Pencey to make room for incoming fall merchandise.

At SimplySoles (1438 Park Rd., NW; 202-232-0072), shoes are 40 percent off until July 27. They’re marked down even further (up to 75 percent) next week.

Score the best bargains on pre-fall and fall merchandise by shopping early at the famed Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. You’ll find great deals on denim, jewels, boots, and more. Prices return to normal August 3. Multiple locations; click here to find a store.

Wednesday, July 22
Explore the latest beauty trends at the semiannual Beauty Night Out event at the Beacon Hotel (1615 Rhode Island Ave., NW; 202-387-1845). Stylists from PR at Partners and Beauty 360 are demonstrating the latest products, and there’ll be free Champagne and appetizers plus a sweet swag bag with advance purchase of tickets. $35 in advance; $25 at door. July 22, 5 to 10 PM.

Two of a girl’s favorite things—chocolate and diamonds—come together tonight. Peruse Mervis Diamond’s extensive selection of bling while enjoying signature cocktails (chocolate-themed, of course) and dipping fruit into a grandiose chocolate fountain topped with diamonds. 4:30 to 7:30 PM. 1700 K St., NW; 202-293-0600.

Help Urban Chic (1626 Wisconsin Ave., NW; 202-338-5398) the launch of its new blog, Living CHIC, featuring special guest Stacy London from TLC’s What Not To Wear. Enjoy Champagne, sweet treats, a swag bag, and 15 percent off the merchandise plus a chance to quiz the stylista herself. One winner will even snag a chic JJ Winters Chain watch. Afterwards, enjoy special deals at Blue Ridge restaurant in Glover Park from 9 to 11 PM. The event takes place from 5 to 9 PM.  RSVP to Lauren@urbanchiconline.com.

Friday, July 24
We all know that Michelle Obama is incredibly stylish, so it’s no wonder she’s been tapped to host Friday’s tenth annual National Design Awards. Unfortunately, only special guests get to attend her program—but the sponsoring museum, New York’s Cooper-Hewitt, is making up for it with a day of free programs. We’re particularly excited for Design X Details, featuring Francisco Costa, creative director for the Calvin Klein Collection. Costa promises to share lots of insider secrets about one of America’s most iconic brands. Free, but call to register. July 24, 10 to 11:15 AM. 500 17th St., NW; 202-639-1770; corcoran.org.
