Where & When: Fashion Edition

We’ve got the skinny on the best sales and fashion events happening around town in the next two weeks.

By McLean Robbins

Tuesday, August 4
District Sample Sale

Quick! Grab the AmEx—tickets for the District Sample Sale on September 16 went on sale this morning. For $100, you’ll nab VIP admission, which includes an extra hour to browse boutiques such as Urban Chic, Sassanova, Ginger, and Sherman Pickey as well as the event’s famed goodie bag filled with swag from area boutiques and great gift certificates. Regular admission (on sale Thursday at 10 AM for $40) still grants you plenty of time to shop—plus free drinks, appetizers, and access to the silent-auction items. Here’s a feel-good bonus: Proceeds from the event benefit Rachel’s Women’s Center. Purchase VIP tickets now here.

Facebook Fanatic
Zelaya Shoes owner Tony Zelaya is in a mad race to reach the 5,000-friend maximum on Facebook. As part of his quest, he’s offering an awesome promotion: Become his friend and refer another and you’ll receive 75 percent off all sale items and 25 percent off all regularly priced merchandise. The deal lasts through August 23—or until he reaches his 5,000-friends goal. You must send Tony a Facebook message letting him know whom you’ve suggested.

Thursday, August 6
Flash Sale

For one evening only, from 4 to 8, enjoy 20 percent off almost everything at Old Town’s Red Barn Mercantile, including special orders, and an extra 15 percent off sale merchandise. Sounds like the perfect excuse for some late-summer redecorating!

Friday, August 7
Sartorial Style

Join chic U Street boutique Caramel tonight as it celebrates the opening reception for an exhibit of photographs by Tony Fetters, a well-known television director whose work has been displayed up and down the East Coast. Enjoy the first chance to browse new fall merchandise as well as Champagne, appetizers, and art. The event runs from 6 to 9 PM.

Saturday, August 8
Undies in a Bundle

Celebrate National Underwear Day with the Full Cup, Old Town’s European bra-fitting salon. The shop is offering 50 percent off its pantie collection for one day only, as well as complimentary bra fittings and time with “pantie pairing” experts.

Wednesday, August 12
Bargain Hunt

Still looking for a bargain? Luxe online retailer Gilt Groupe is launching its latest iteration, Gilt Fuse, today at noon. Featuring lower-priced brands, the site will feature names such as CC Skye, Plenty By Tracy Reese, Kova & T, BCBG, and more. Like Gilt Groupe, the site will offer single-brand sales for 36 hours at prices of up to 70 percent off retail. Existing Gilt Groupe members will already have access. If you’re not a member, click here for an invitation code to see what all the fuss is about.

Thursday, August 13
Massage Madness

Trying to save funds this summer by skipping out on a grand vacation? Treat yourself at home with a massage from new eco-luxe salon Peace and Ginger, which is offering massage specials to celebrate its third month in business. Enjoy deals such as $40 off a 90-minute Swedish, deep-tissue, myofascial, or pain-therapy massage; $50 off a one-hour warm-ginger-oil massage; and $60 off a 90-minute warm-ginger-oil massage. And first-time customers will get 15% off any one-hour massage when they book online. The deals are available August 13 through September 5, but we recommend booking early.

Fashion Fit to a Tea

The Ritz-Carlton Tysons Corner is continuing its Fashion Teas for a Cause series this month with a presentation from Seven for All Mankind denim. In the hotel’s Entyse lounge, guests will enjoy Champagne, tea sandwiches, and sweets while the latest fashion trends are modeled tableside. Even better, 10 percent of the proceeds will be donated to the Wolf Trap Young Professionals Society. Tickets are $40 a person. Reserve a table at 703-506-4300. 4 to 7 PM.
