New Pop-Up Shop Alert: Trash Cat Collective at Pleasant Plains Workshop

Starting this weekend, you can shop one-of-a-kind vintage all month long in an art space across from Howard University.

Filled with standout goods and only around for a limited time, pop-up shops are one of our favorite ways to score one-of-a-kind items. So we were super jazzed to discover that starting this weekend, Trash Cat Collective will be filling up the Pleasant Plains Workshop with vintage clothing, accessories, and housewares for an entire month. Yay!

Composed of Anna Wonson, Sara Tenenbaum, Josie Torres Barth, and Zoe Pollock, the Trash Cat Collective is known for selling and trading quirky finds sourced from all over the country. Since coming together in the fall of 2010, they’ve set up temporary shop in everything from H Street coffee and wine bar Sova to the Textile Museum. Though they’ve stuck mostly to clothing swaps in the past, during their extended run at Pleasant Plains the group will include a few fun one-off events in addition to regular store hours. We’re marking our calendar with the following:

• Fashion Show & Brunch at Mama Chuy DC. Sunday, February 12, noon to 3 PM.

• Fashion Nerd Nite (A collection of short presentations on fashion-related topics) at Looking Glass Lounge. February 19, 8 PM.

• Closing Day Swap-o-Rama at Pleasant Plains. February 25, noon to 5 PM.

Pollock, who works as an assistant editor for Andrew Sullivan’s the Dish, tells us the atmosphere will be fun and relaxed.

“It’ll be like hanging out with your friends,” she says. “There may even be an impromptu hemming party.”

The Trash Cat Collective takeover of Pleasant Plains workshop (2608 Georgia Ave., NW; 202-415-1466) runs Saturday, January 28, through February 25. Opening hours are Thursdays and Fridays 2 to 7 PM, Saturdays 1 to 6, and Sundays noon to 5. Check Trash Cat’s Facebook page for more information.
