Where & When: Fashion Edition

We can’t get enough the new District Shopping Days sale, Bethesda’s boutique boom, and the kitschy fun of Baltimore’s Hon Fest.

By Betsy Lowther   Published Tuesday, June 10, 2008

Wednesday, June 11: Tickled Pink has moved its Bethesda location from Woodmont Avenue to nearby 4867 Bethesda Avenue and is hosting a cocktail shopping party in its new digs from 5 to 9 PM. Grab your pinkest, preppiest gear and get over there.

Wednesday, June 11, through Friday, June 14: Did you get your District Shopping Days key card yet? You can pick one up online or at select stores for $15 to get massive discounts at area boutiques in the second half of this week. Head here for the fashiony details.

Thursday, June 12, through Sunday, June 15: Get major discounts on great denim—we personally have our eye on some faaaabulous Citizen of Humanity wide-legged jeans—at Bethesda’s National Jean Company tent sale. It’s 30 percent off your first item, 20 percent off each additional item. And don’t miss the super-discounted $10 bargain rack.

Thursday, June 12, through Saturday, June 14: If there’s one thing we hate about summery sundresses, it’s summery sundresses paired with ill-fitting, strap-exposing bras. Luckily, Penn Quarter’s Coup de Foudre Lingerie is hosting three days of bra-fitting appointments for “full busted” women (that’s 32-40 D-H cups) with a representative from Prima Donna Fit. You’ll also get 10 percent off with a purchase of two Prima Donna bras. Call 202-393-0878 to schedule an appointment.

Saturday, June 14: Yep, we’re just all about Bethesda this week. The new annex of boutiques at Bethesda Row is fully opened and hosting a grand-opening fete from noon to 5. There will be runway shows at 1, 2, and 3 plus giveaways, discounts, and of course, lots of shopping.

The monthlong arts show Artomatic is closing on Sunday, but not without a big fashion-focused bang Saturday night. Its grand finale—the Art in Fashion event pairs local designers with performance art, music, catwalk-strutting models, and more. The festivities kick off at 8 PM and run until the 1:30 AM closing time.

Saturday, June 14, and Sunday, June 15
: Okay, so this isn’t technically a fashion event, but Baltimore’s annual Hon Fest celebrates that certain kitschy, ’60s, beehived-hairdoed local gal who (thanks in part to John Waters) made our neighbor city kinda famous. Frankly, we can’t think of any better reason to don an outrageous vintage frock and head north for a day or two of carnivallike fun.

UPDATE: The Wildwood Shopping Center in Bethesda (corner of Democracy Boulevard and Old Georgetown Rd) holds its annual sidewalk sale starting Thursday through Saturday, June 14.  Boutiques including Belina, Sequel, South Moon Under, Madeline, Blanca Flor Silver Jewelry, and Piccolo Piggies of Georgetown set up tables and racks full of merch at deep discounts.

Movers and Shoppers

The latest fashion accessory? It’s a cup of Dupont Circle’s new Tangysweet natural frozen yogurt (a close cousin to the LA/NY celeb favorite Pinkberry). Every time we’ve passed by the sleek P Street location this week, it’s been absolutely packed with stylish snackers.

French Connection has shut down its Georgetown shop on Wisconsin Avenue to gear up for a big move to M Street this fall. (Yep, that was us staring forlornly at the now-empty storefront the other week.) The Pentagon City outpost is still open, if you need a FCUK fix.

And a special RIP to Georgetown’s the District Line: We’ll miss you.
