We’re prepping for fall with lots of events, trunk shows, and the last gasp of summer sales.

Tuesday, August 19: Tim Gunn is here! Tim Gunn is here! You know how we’re positively smitten with the Project Runway judge (and, as it turns out, DC native), and we couldn’t be more excited that he’s the guest host at the Out for Work benefit cocktail hour at Halo. (EDITOR'S NOTE: We just received a call from Out for Work that the event tonight has been canceled! The organizer hopes to reschedule it for later this fall. Email info@outforwork.com for details.) Thursday, August 21: It’s a busy day for DC fashion! First, the Chevy Chase Saks Fifth Avenue will be showing off the latest Prada accessories all day long. You’ve seen those insanely sculpted heels and ruffle-edged bags all over the September magazines—now prepare to drool in person.
And then! The good folks at Goodwill are holding a trunk show of vintage and vintage-inspired designs at Marimekko in Silver Spring from 5 to 7 PM. We literally changed our plans so we could attend. Marimekko and vintage together? It’s like a dream of ours, finally coming true.
Oh, but that’s not all! If you happen to be in the Alexandria area instead, check out the Bella Designs trunk show at Periwinkle. Bella will be debuting its incredibly cute fall line of jewelry, and any items from the spring/summer collection will be 50 percent off. Baubles galore!
Friday, August 22: Phew. Still with me? Head back down to Alexandria for a three-day trunk show at Hysteria for Mint Jodi Arnold’s new fall collection. Sculpted cocktail dresses, gorgeously detailed designs, lots of pretty patterns . . . swoon. The trunk show runs through Sunday—and there will be a special preview of the holiday collection as well.
Saturday, August 23: Urban Chic’s Georgetown outpost hosts a Rebecca Taylor fall trunk show from 3 to 7 PM. Dresses! Champagne! Free gift with purchase! (We hear it’s a good one. . . .) We can’t think of a more perfect predinner stop.
Movers and Shoppers
Georgetown’s delightful Sugar boutique has slashed prices on spring/summer items another 40 percent. That’s practically free in our book!
We’ve ventured out to the brand-new Madewell in McLean, and have to say we completely swooned over its fall boot collection. The store is also giving away a free limited-edition DC-themed tote with every jeans purchase, and it’s surprisingly really cute. We approve! More>> Shop Around Blog | Style | Find a Spa
