What she’s wearing: Zara studded vest over a black Old Navy tank; Mike & Chris pants, Steve Madden shoes, and earrings and bracelet from H&M.
What she bought at the market: “This midcentury desk was $165.”
Describe your style. “Funky? I love vintage, and I’m attracted to the mix of high and low. I shop at places like Meeps (2104 18th St., NW) and Junction (1510 U St., NW) for unique things. I like Zara for foundation pieces.” Your closet staple? “A nice slip. I love them. They feel so nice, and you really feel like you’re getting dressed.”
What do you have your eye on for fall? “I’m so excited for fall! I was really inspired by Gucci and Anna Sui’s looks for the season. I’ll be living in tight black pants with loose, intricate tops. I’m really into all of the furs and lush fabrics like velvet. I just bought a ’40s fur vest on eBay.”
Do you like shooties? “I do. I like the look of a boot, but I never really wear the tall ones—I have skinny legs, and there’s always a huge gap at the top.”
Whose style do you admire? “Rihanna’s.”
Rachel says: The vest is undeniably rocker, but the matte finish on the studs gives it a clean, modern look. The placement of the embellishment is a neat trick—the rows draw the eye inward for a slim line, and the embellishment stops at the natural waist.
