Where & When Bridal: What to Do This Weekend

Weekend plans? Easy. Find a fabulous dress on Friday, taste some cakes on Saturday, then enjoy more dresses and cake (and absolutely everything else wedding-related) at a bridal bash.

By Ashley Jacobs

Thursday, November 20, through Saturday, November 22: Reem Acra Trunk Show
Known for her striking and dramatic gowns, Lebanese designer Reem Acra brings her celebrated bridal line—launched 11 years ago—to Carine’s Bridal Atelier in Georgetown (1726 Wisconsin Ave., NW; 202-965-4696). About 30 additional gowns that aren’t normally carried in the store will be available to try on, and those who purchase a dress during the weekend will receive 10 percent off. By appointment only; appointments last one hour.

Friday, November 21, through Sunday, November 23: Anne Barge Trunk Show
American designer Anne Barge dreamed of being a bridal designer since she was a tot. Ten years after that dream came true, you can browse the designer’s fall 2008 and spring 2009 collections at Hannelore’s (106 N. Lee St., Alexandria; 703-549-0387). Brides who purchase during the show will receive 10 percent off. By appointment only, appointments last a minimum of one hour—so really, you could stay all day trying on pretty dresses!

Saturday, November 22: Cake Tasting
Sugar ’N Shindigs (Manassas; 703-627-7862) will host its first-ever open-house cake tasting this Saturday, brought about by the high demand for its sweet cakes. One-on-one consultations will feature four cakes (classic yellow, coconut rum, chocolate, and strawberry) with a variety of fillings for couples to mix and match. Couples who order that day will receive 15 percent off all services as well as get a surprise gift. By appointment only; appointments last 45 minutes. Free; noon to 8.

Saturday, November 22: Another Cake Tasting!
Meet the bridal consultants of Carey’s Cuisine (4311 St. Barnabas Rd., Temple Hills; 301-899-3885) and design your perfect wedding cake. An assortment of cake and icing flavors will be available for you to mix and match. Choose from fillings including lemon, vanilla, and almond, with icings from strawberry mousse to buttercream. If you book the cake company at the tasting, you’ll get $50 off orders of more than $300. RSVP required, and there’s a limit of two guests per party. Free; 6 to 7 PM.

Saturday, November 22: A Pre-Wedding Wedding Party
This two-hour bridal extravaganza will feature models showcasing gowns from Carine’s Bridal Atelier, cakes from Pastry Arts, flowers from Ory Flowers, hairstyling from Hair by Giselle, and a slew of additional industry professionals (think photography, stationery, and event planning). The event, hosted by Bloomingdale’s and My Day magazine, will be held at the Bloomingdale’s Chevy Chase location (5300 Western Ave., Chevy Chase; 240-744-3700). Free; 6 to 8 PM.
