Where & When Bridal: What to Do This Weekend

This weekend, it’s all about the dress.

By Ashley Jacobs

Thursday, December 4: Storewide Sale at Rizik’s
Every Thursday from 6 to 8 PM during December, Rizik’s (1100 Connecticut Ave., NW; 202-223-4050) is offering 10 percent off all merchandise. The boutique’s bridal collection features gowns by Lazaro, Rivini, and Adele Wechsler, among others. Appointments are suggested.

Friday, December 5, through Saturday, December 6: Augusta Jones Trunk Show
Charlotte Leung is a Danish-born designer whose bridal collections—under her label Augusta Jones—are breezy numbers often accented by a small design or adornment and in classic, feminine silhouettes. A trunk show of Leung’s gowns will be at Hitched (1523 Wisconsin Ave., NW; 202-333-6162) this weekend, including a selection from the upcoming 2009 collections. Brides who purchase during the weekend receive 10 percent off. Free but by appointment only.

Saturday, December 6: Bara Luxe by Marimo Trunk Show
Nothing gets our interest more than a free dress. And by dress we mean couture gowns, of course. A trunk show of full-figure couture bridal gowns—all size 16 for try-ons—by Bara Luxe by Marimo will be hosted this Saturday by Hannelore’s of Old Towne (106 N. Lee St., Alexandria; 703-549-0387), and one lucky girl will walk away with a free dress of her choosing. Free; 10 to 6. Drawing for a free gown at 4 PM.

Sunday, December 7: Sample Sale
The end of the year is always an enviable time to be shopping for a wedding dress, as bridal boutiques quickly clear the floor to make room for incoming collections. Enter Carine’s Bridal Atelier’s humongous sample sale. Prices of bridal couture by premier designers such as Carolina Herrera and Melissa Sweet will be slashed by as much as 75 percent, with all gowns priced at $999, $1,299, or $1,499. Other designer labels that are part of the sale, taking place at the Ritz-Carlton Tysons Corner (Plaza Room, Sixth Floor, 1700 Tysons Blvd., McLean; 703-506-4300), include Angel Sanchez, Jenny Lee, Junko Yoshioka, Karl Lagerfeld, Platinum Collection, Reem Acra, Rosa Clara, St. Pucchi, and the Vineyard Collection. Get there early because this sale is first come, first served. Free; 10 to 7.
