Where and When Bridal: What to Do This Weekend

Pretty dresses and paper weddings.

By Ashley Jacobs

Friday, February 20, through Saturday, February 21: Simone Carvalli Trunk Show
The design house of Simone Carvalli has a knack for mixing affordability with couture. Its gowns start at just $2,000, in slinky silks and pretty French lace. At Harriet Kassman Bridal Salon (Mazza Gallerie, 5300 Wisconsin Ave., NW, Second Floor; 202-363-1870) this Friday and Saturday, Carvalli gowns take center stage in a trunk show of the latest collection. Brides who purchase during the event will receive 10 percent off their gowns—a new bonus for Harriet Kassman shoppers! Appointments suggested. Free, 10 to 8 PM.

Friday, February 20, through Saturday, February 21: Lea-Ann Belter Trunk Show
Promise . . . for the Savvy Bride (4931-A St. Elmo Ave., Second Floor, Bethesda; 301-215-9232) opened its doors in Bethesda five years ago with an eye for style and a desire for environmental responsibility. With that in mind, it’s bringing Toronto-based designer Lea-Ann Belter and her latest collection to town for a trunk show starting Friday. Promise usually holds only one show per designer each year, and Belter has chosen to visit DC as one of only three stops on her US tour. She uses silks, freshwater pearls, French Alençon lace, and Swarovski crystals to form her ultra-feminine, easily wearable gowns. Brides who purchase during the event will receive 10 percent off, and Belter has a surprise gift for those who find their perfect dress. Appointments required; free.

Saturday, February 21: Paper Weddings
Seeking inspiration for your wedding designs? Paper Weddings is an annual event happening at all Paper Source stores, organized specifically with the DIY bride and groom in mind. Instructors will offer demos on everything from creative save-the-dates to tasteful tabletop decor, and guests can try out ideas of their own to take home. Check the Web site for store locations, and while you’re there, print off a raffle ticket for a chance to win in the drawing. Free; first demo begins at 11:30, the last demo at 2.
