Thursday, May 15: Summer Sample Sale Begins Starting Thursday, get sample gowns at Promise (4931A St. Elmo Ave., Bethesda; 301-215-9232) at up to 60 percent off. The sale goes through August 2, but looking at the store’s gallery of gorgeous dresses (we’ve got our eye on the Lea-Ann Belter number in the top row of photos), we’d mark it with a “while supplies last” tag. Schedule an appointment (required) by calling the salon or e-mailing info@promisedc.com. Tuesday through Friday 11 AM to 7 PM; call for Saturday hours.
Friday, May 16: Badgley Mischka Trunk Show Through Sunday, view Badgley Mischka’s complete 2008 collection at Harriet Kassman Bridal Salon (5300 Wisconsin Ave., NW; 202-363-1870). Appointments are recommended, but not required. Friday and Saturday 10 AM to 6 PM, Sunday noon to 5 PM.
Sunday, May 18: Wedding Cake Tasting Event Enticing Icing by Katie (great name, Katie!) invites you to the Sheraton Washington North (4095 Powder Mill Rd., Beltsville; 301-937-4422) to sample all 16 of its cake flavors and fillings, including confetti cake, which we hope is a glammed-up version of Pillsbury Funfetti. Book at the event and save 10 percent on your cake. Plus, chat with two other wedding vendors: Trusted Exposures photography and Njoi Designs, which makes custom wedding invitations. RSVP to katie@enticingicingbykatie.com. Free; noon to 5 PM.
Open House and Wedding Cake Tasting More cake! Head to Custom Cake Design (8535 Ziggy La., Gaithersburg; 301-216-1100) to view more than 50 display cakes and sample flavors. Free; noon to 4 PM.
“Wedding Invites” Workshop Another weekend, another awesome Paper Source workshop. This one, at the Georgetown location (3019 M St., NW; 202-298-5545), will teach you how to make save-the-dates and invitations, plus how to address them. Register by phone or online, but you must sign up at least a day in advance. $55; 10 AM to 1 PM. To submit a bridal event, e-mail mconrad@washingtonian.com. DO NOT USE Katie Edgar with EnticingIcingByKatie.com from your reccomended vendors. She is very unprofessional. She has avoided all of our calls, emails, and texts for a month. She has screwed my husband and I over on a wedding cake we paid in full in July for our Vow Renewal Jan 23rd, giving no refund or contact. So here I am 1 week out, desperately seeking someone who can fill the void.

Gone are the robust bureaus for the Los Angeles Times, Newhouse News, and other once-healthy news organizations. Digital media bureaus now are taking their places with as many reporters and plenty of swagger.
