Brewmaster Garrett Oliver, sniffing some tasty beer.
If you’re a serious beer lover, you might be interested in “The Art of Refermentation,” hosted by National Geographic Live on Thursday, May 3. Garrett Oliver, brewmaster of the Brooklyn Brewery—one of America’s first microbreweries—will discuss refermentation, the rapidly fading art of fermenting beer in the bottle, cask, or keg rather than in a large fermenter. There will, of course, be beers for the tasting. Tickets are $65 (buy them here). At the National Geographic Society’s Grosvenor Auditorium (1600 M St., NW; 202-857-7700). The art of refermentation is just one of our picks for this week. For more fun times and entertainment, including a Swedish pop group and Chinese film, check out this week's installment of Where & When Weekly.

Haven't gotten the opportunity to experience any of the Shakespeare in Washington events yet? May we recommend Coriolanus at the Kennedy Center, which our reviewer says is absolutely "riveting": "William Houston, in the title role of the leader with guts and guile, has an extraordinary voice—his stage whisper can be heard in the back of the house, and it can build to a thunderous roar. Physically slight, he has the stage presence of a titan. I have seen the play, which is not often produced, with both Laurence Olivier and Ian McKellen in the title role; William Houston’s performance is the best of the three." Read the full review here. And keep a heads up on May 3: that day, the 1:30 performance of Coriolanus will cost only $25.

Over at The DC Universe, a blogger speculates why TMZ might not get off the ground in DC (hint: he thinks folks here just aren’t as interesting as they are in LA) . The Upstate Life has the scoop on the lineup for the upcoming Virgin Festival. It’s a good one—Amy Winehouse, Spoon, Fountains of Wayne, the Fratellis, and loads more. Tickets for two day passes will go on-sale next Saturday, May 5, at 10 am via Ticketmaster and will cost $175 for general admission.
DCist has the details on a battle of the bands between Tony Snow and Bob Schieffer. Yup, you heard that right.

The Lookout gives you the heads up on great events taking place around town. This Saturday, learn something new.
Going out on the weekends doesn’t have to be all about happy hours and dancing. This weekend you have a chance to learn something new from your peers in the city.
Learn-a-palooza, a community-wide event in neighborhoods all over DC, operates on a simple premise: that others know something we don’t, and that we might like to learn. With that in mind, dozens of regular folks who have special skills have signed up to teach free workshops this Saturday, April 28, from 10 am to 6 pm.
Want to learn to fix a flat bicycle tire? How about some easy, no-fail tips for getting free drinks from a bartender? Or maybe a beginner’s guide to pilates is more to your liking. Classes also deal with more serious topics, like how to buy your first home and understanding your credit report.
But most of the workshops are on light-hearted subjects that will add a bit of excitement and fun to your life. See the full list here.
