The Cardigans are one band you're likely to hear tonight at Hej Hej.
Looking for a refreshing spot tonight as the weather warms up? You should stop by the basement of Saint Ex (1847 14th Street, NW), where Gate 54 will be host to Hej Hej, a DJ night that plays exclusively Scandinavian pop and rock (you may recognize some of the DJs spinning tonight; DJs Seeking Irony and Weird Curves used to do Blue State, while DJ Kathryn Wildt is from the DJ nights My Favorite Dress and iPod Jukebox).Who might you hear on the play list? Oh, just some of my favorite bands, like the Cardigans, the Raveonettes, and loads more (those Scandinavian folks have a knack for putting out some darn good music). Plus, there are some solid drink specials: deals like $4 Viking beer and $5 Reyka vodka the whole night. The evening will get started at 10 pm.

Raymond Bokhour (Rosencrantz) and Liam Craig (Guildenstern) star in Tom Stoppard's Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead at The Studio Theatre.
Haven't gotten your fill of Shakespeare in Washington yet? You might want to check out the Studio Theatre's production of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, playing through Sunday, June 24. Our reviewer gave the show four stars, and had the following to say:
"Under Kirk Jackson’s direction, Raymond Bokhour as Rosencrantz and Liam Craig as Guildenstern not only deftly handle the lightning-fast dialogue; they create truly distinct characters—Bokhour endearingly innocent and bewildered, Craig frustrated and borderline pompous—who speak as much of desperation and impending loss as they do of the sustaining, even healing, power of language." The Rosebuds.
Tuesday, May 22: Head out to the Rock and Roll Hotel (1353 H Street, NE) to catch the Rosebuds, one of my favorite bands so far this spring. The North Carolina group plays indie pop with a layer of catchy disco. Plus, it’ll probably be one of your last chances to see area band Le Loup, who open for the Rosebuds, in such a small setting. The group just signed to Sub Pop and is releasing an album in the fall full of grand, emotional rock that’s sure to be a big hit. So go see them while you can, and later on you can brag to your friends that you saw them way back when. 9 pm. $10.
The Rosebuds and Le Loup are just one of the picks for this week. For more things to do this week, including a book reading by a prize-winning author and an art happy hour, read Where & When Weekly.
