The modern boutique, featuring local and international designers, will host a happy hour to support DC Asian Pacific American Film, a nonprofit organization that focuses on documentaries and emerging student filmmakers and presents the DC Asian Pacific American Film Festival in the fall. In addition to donating 15 percent of the evening’s proceeds to DC APA, the store will be kicking off its semiannual sale, with markdowns of up to 65 percent.

If you can’t make it Thursday, Circle Boutique will also be participating in the Dog Days of August Sidewalk Sale and Festival in the U Street corridor this Saturday and Sunday. The eighth annual Screen on the Green kicked off last Monday night with Annie Hall, and revelers were out in force. Yet for those new to the practice of sprawling out on the Mall, it might seem everyone else is more prepared than you: unpacking delicious spreads of goodies when you forgot to buy dinner or leaning back in comfy lawn chairs when you’re without even a blanket. But don’t get jealous—there are some easy ways to better enjoy the show.

There’s no shortage of ways to tour the nation’s capital—and the latest in guided fun is on two wheels. Segway tours have been popping up in the area over the past few years and producing mini-herds of PTs (personal transporters) maneuvering through pedestrian crowds and gliding down District sidewalks.

If you want to hear Harry Potter speak, go no farther than the Borders bookstore at White Flint Mall (11301 Rockville Pike, Bethesda; 301-816-1067) Wednesday at 7 pm. Broadway actor Jim Dale has gained a whole new audience by giving voice to Harry, Hermione, Severus Snape, Voldemort, and more in the audio versions of the book series. The 17-disc audio set of the final installment, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, is selling almost as quickly as the book.

From trophy wives to morning breath, the ladies of the Broad-Minded Comedy Show covered it all last Friday night. Andrea Fuller, Aparna Nancherla, Kaite Riffey, Freddi Vernell, Diana Saez, and Erin Jackson brought in the laughs at the Riot Act Comedy Club in DC’s HR-57 club.

Thursday, July 26: The Modernist Society, a monthly event designed to encourage “intelligent lounging,” hosts an evening at Bourbon (2321 18th St., NW; 202-332 0800). The group’s idea of intelligent lounging? A happy hour, a Q&A session with a newsmaker, and then a DJ spinning funky tunes afterward. Sounds good to me. On tonight’s bill is Josh Rushing, a former Marine who is now a correspondent for the cable network Al Jazeera English. If you get there early enough, you might snag some of the free Absolut Vodka cocktails they'll be handing out. 8 pm; free.
