Looking for something fun—not to mention free and culturally stimulating—to do this week? Here are two options to try: the Shakespeare Free For All and Jazz in the Garden.
On Thursday evening, the Shakespeare Free For All kicks off at Carter Barron Amphitheatre in Rock Creek Park (16th Street and Colorado Avenue, NW). This summer it’s a production of Love’s Labor’s Lost. But it’s not what you’d expect—the Shakespeare Theatre Company is remounting its 1960s-inspired 2006 production of the play, which features everything from go-go boots to hippies. 7:30 pm. Then, starting Friday at the National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden, and continuing every Friday through August, is the popular series Jazz in the Garden. This Friday’s kickoff features Afro Bop Alliance, an Afro-Cuban jazz group, from 5 to 8:30 pm. The concerts take place in front of the Pavilion Café, next to the grand fountain and reflecting pool. The Sculpture Garden is located at 7th Street and Constitution Avenue, NW. Free.
