Things to Do

Where & When: This Week in Washington Nightlife

We've got the nightlife fun, with great things to do Monday through Thursday.

Monday, March 3: Blind Melon … Sort Of
Everybody remembers the mid-’90s Blind Melon video for “No Rain” with the infamous Bee Girl. Shannon Hoon, the group’s original lead singer, died of an overdose, but the band has regrouped with a new lead singer. Will it be any good this time around? Hard to say—but if you’re up for a show merely for nostalgia and curiosity’s sake, then you’ll want to hit this one. 7:30 PM; $15.

Tuesday, March 4: Arm Wrestling at the Palace of Wonders
If you’re not wrestling with other savvy shoppers at the popular District Sample Sale, try out a different kind of wrestling—literally. The Palace of Wonders brings back its popular arm-wrestling night, with the DC Furies Women’s Rugby Team making an appearance. Sign up in single-sex teams of four to six members, and it’ll run you $5 to enter (spectactors pay $8). 9 to 11 PM; registration is from 6 to 8:30 PM.
Wednesday, March 5: Swedish Crooner Charms Tonight
Jose Gonzalez, the Swedish indie folk singer, plays tonight at the Sixth and I Historic Synagogue. Gonzalez’s mix of classical guitar, catchy folk, acoustic covers, and all-around charm will enchant you. 8 PM; $22.50.

Thursday, March 6: DC Independent Film Festival Kicks Off
Who needs Sundance? Washington’s showcase for indie films brings more than 100 movies from around the world to DC starting tonight through March 16. All screenings take place in the Jack Morton Auditorium on the George Washington University campus. Click on for schedules and films.
