Premiering tonight is The Great Game: Afghanistan at Sidney Harman Hall. The performance, a thrill-filled three-part work from London’s Tricycle Theatre Company, explores the culture of and foreign involvement in Afghanistan from 1842 to the present day. See the first part tonight, or wait until Saturday to book tickets to all three. Don’t worry, this isn’t like Lord of the Rings—the plays don’t need to be seen in chronological order. 7:30. Tickets ($50 each) are available here.
Who doesn’t love free dessert? In honor of the premiere of Top Chef: Just Desserts, the online reservation system OpenTable is partnering with more than 75 Washington restaurants to give you free sweets. Simply book your table with Opentable.com, and the end of your meal is on the house! Mmm, we can already taste Againn’s banoffee pie. Click here for a complete list of participating restaurants.

Forgive our bad influence. We should probably stop advising you to buy scalped tickets, but these past two weeks have been jam-packed with great concerts—who are we to deny you the opportunity to get in on the action? The sickeningly sweet couple Jenny & Johnny (that’s Jenny Lewis of Rilo Kiley fame and Jonathan Rice) are playing an already sold-out show at the Black Cat at 8. We won’t even bother telling you the price, because you know you’ll be paying more. But trust us—it’s worth it.
Tickets are still available for this season’s District Sample Sale. Put on by a bevy of great ladies for a wonderful cause, this event features food, cocktails, and, you guessed it, sample-sale prices (read: big fat discounts) on goodies from boutiques such as Urban Chic, Fornash, and Ginger. Because we’re always in the mood to score a great deal on designer merchandise, this has been a favorite event of The Washingtonian’s for years now. VIP tickets sold out ages ago, but there’s still time to snag general admission. Cady's Alley; 6:30 to 9:30.
