This year, the Library of Congress gave Paul McCartney its Gershwin Prize for Popular Song. In honor of that award, and as part of the Sir Paul McCartney Film Fest, the library is screening the 1968 Beatles film Yellow Submarine at 7.

Local vegan chef Lauren Von Der Pool and the cable channel Al Jazeera English are screening Fast Food, Fatter Profits: Obesity in America at Busboys and Poets at Fifth and K streets, Northwest. The documentary examines how the fast-food industry is affecting the American diet and why the United States is the world’s most overweight nation. Uzbekistan isn’t really known as a hotbed of bluegrass, but that’s what makes Bob Perilla’s band, Big Hillbilly Bluegrass, so remarkable. The acoustic outfit—which has performed on three continents, often at the behest of State Department—is playing the Kennedy Center’s free Millennium Stage at 6.

Why should humans be the only ones to enjoy a Thanksgiving feast this week? After all, humans didn’t predict the exact outcome of the World Cup while hanging out underwater. Head to the National Zoo this afternoon for an octopus feeding. 3 PM.
