There’s a new exhibit opening at the National Museum of Women in the Arts Friday. “Eye Wonder: Photography From the Bank of America Collection” features more than 100 photographs dating from 1865 to the present, all using special visual techniques and manipulations. The museum is open from 10 to 5, and admission is $10; free the first Sunday of every month.
Oddsca, a new psychedelic horror film featuring an original soundtrack by indie darlings Animal Collective, screens Friday at American University’s library. A Q&A session with filmmaker Danny Perez and Animal Collective member Geologist follows. In the library’s lower level; 6 PM. Free.
The GarmentDistrict, a temporary retail boutique and art installation at 1005 Seventh Street, Northwest, opens Friday. The boutique features work from local designers and artists. There’s an opening party Friday night at Lux Lounge (649 New York Ave., NW) from 6 to 10. $10 suggested donation.
The Northern Virginia Community College Alexandria Band is performing with local kids Friday night at the college’s Rachel M. Schlesinger Concert Hall and Arts Center (3001 N. Beauregard St., Alexandria). 7:30; free.
It’s Engineering Family Day at the National Building Museum Saturday, when budding engineers can participate in fun, educational activities such as Lego-robot building and Ping-Pong catapulting. 10 to 4. $5 suggested donation.
Start your Saturday fun a little early this weekend and take a tour of Port City Brewery (3950 Wheeler Ave., Alexandria), the first brewery to open in Alexandria since Prohibition. For $5, you can take a tour of the brewery, taste all the beers on tap, and keep your tasting glass. Tours start at 2 and 3.
The Jubilee Project, which promotes hepatitis B education and awareness, is hosting a benefit concert Saturday at Artisphere. Performers include Rooftop Pursuit, AMP, Amanda Lee, and Brian Wing. Buy tickets ($10) from Artisphere. 7 PM.
