An Oscar winner, a remix master, and an evening of chick flicks

Fresh off his Oscar win Sunday night, singer/songwriter Randy Newman takes the stage at Strathmore. He’ll play favorites such as “Feels Like Home” and “You’ve Got a Friend in Me.” 8 PM; buy tickets ($25 to $65) at Strathmore’s site.

Electronic music man Pogo creates works from sounds in films such as Alice in Wonderland, the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Tonight he’s at the Black Cat along with Telepath. 8:30 PM; get tickets ($12) at Ticket Alternative.

Arlington Cinema ’N’ Drafthouse is hosting Lunafest, a mini-festival of ten short films by, for, and about women. There are animated films, documentaries, comedies, and dramas, and many have won accolades on the awards circuit. The screening starts at 7:30. Purchase tickets ($15) at the venue’s Web site.
