PARTY: Be one of the first to see the view from the Beacon Hotel’s new rooftop hotspot, Sky Bar (1615 Rhode Island Ave., NW). There will be an open bar with craft cocktails, appetizers, and live entertainment. 6 to 9 PM; buy tickets ($35) at Event Brite.

FILM: The Politics on Film Festival begins today with a screening of Staging Hope at the Navy Memorial Auditorium. The film follows a group of American actors and the Ugandan teenagers they worked with on a theater program, highlighting both the devastation and continued hope in the refugee camps. There will also be appearances by cast members of The West Wing. 6:30 PM. The festival runs through May 8; visit the Web site for a complete line-up.
Thursday, May 5
DESSERT: A party for fro-yo . . . why not? Pinkberry is officially opening at 1213 Connecticut Avenue, Northwest, and the shop plans to celebrate with a DJ, prizes, and lots of free frozen yogurt. 6 to 10 PM.
