THEATER: Everyone remembers their first crush and the pain of unrequited love—that time your
secret admirer turned out to be the weird kid (or maybe you were the weird kid, I
don’t know you) can leave a lasting impression.
GALA Hispanic Theatre is hosting Young at Heart, a night of staged readings about teenage butterflies written
by young playwrights. Get ready to feel nostalgic. Free. 7 PM.
Tuesday, February 12
SNAKES: If you didn’t catch the midnight showing of
Snakes on a Plane the day it was released, you seriously missed out. Make amends (it is the year of
the snake, after all) at
Ping Pong Dim Sum in Dupont Circle. It’s keeping happy hour specials going all night, and the movie
gets started at 8 PM. Free.
MARDI GRAS:
TruOrleans on H Street isn’t usually a party spot, but for Fat Tuesday, maybe that’ll change.
It’ll have masks, beads, and drink specials, so it’s already got most places beat.
Add some food specials and contests and you’ve got us sold.
Wednesday, February 13
SOUL: Soul Call Paul and DJ Baby Alcatraz take over the mixing boards at Cafe Saint-Ex’s
monthly
Pass the Peas soul food and music night. Get things started with dishes like country-fried steak,
cornmeal-crusted catfish, and cornbread, then work it all off on the dance floor as
you shake it to soul classics. 6 PM.
Thursday, February 14
GET A BOY/GIRLFRIEND: If you’re in a relationship, you should probably already have some idea of what you’re
doing for Valentine’s Day—can’t help ya there. But if you’re still livin’ in the fast
lane, check out
Washingtonian
’s Singles Soiree at Penn Social. Ten bucks gets you in the door and two drinks—from then on you’ll
get goodie bags, a photo booth, live music and a deejay, and plenty of eligible bachelors
and bachelorettes to help ensure next year you’re not spending Valentine’s Day at
a singles party. As always, Penn Social’s skeeball, shuffleboard, pool tables, and
foosball will be open, so you can get some healthy trash talk going. Tickets ($10)
are available online. 7 PM.
