DOUGHNUTS: After months of teasing and pop-up shops, Astro Doughnuts & Fried Chicken is finally open. Skip out of work now if you can—the first 200 customers today will get a free doughnut (with purchase of anything else). The first 50 there for lunch get a free side. 8 AM until the doughnuts are gone.
BOOKS: Carpe Librum, a huge pop-up book sale, returns for the 11th consecutive year. With more than 50,000 used books, CDs, and DVDs, you’ll definitely be able to find something to add to your library. Sales help fund programs for DC Public Schools children. The sale starts today (1030 17th St., NW) and runs through May 15. 10 AM to 7:30 PM.

PATIOS: It’s supposed to be 85 degrees (!) Tuesday, so it’s probably a good time for P.J. Clarke’s to open its patio for the summer. Head over at happy hour for 50-cent oysters and $3.50 DC Brau from 5 to 8. For more patios with specials, check out Best Bites Blog’s roundup.

MUSIC: The people behind one of DC’s best music blogs, All Things Go, are throwing the eighth edition of New Noise, which promotes emerging local bands. Up Wednesday are shoegazing dream poppers GEMS and electronic band PLOY. Previously featured bands have gone on to blow up, so head over to the Gibson Guitar Showroom and you might get to see the next big thing in a tiny venue. Flying Dog will be featured all night. Tickets ($12) are available online. 7 PM.
Thursday, April 10
FILM: The District’s international film festival, Filmfest DC, kicks off this week at Regal Gallery Place with a screening of Underground, an Australian film about Julian Assange’s early hacking days and his eventual transformation into a political activist. Afterward, there’ll be an opening party downstairs at Bar Louie. Tickets ($30) are available online. 7 PM.
