What to Do This Week: June 4 to 7
Sample dozens of beers from Sierra Nevada brewery, try a stinky grilled cheese, and see opera as you’ve never seen it before.
Monday, June 4
A few years ago, the only type of Sierra Nevada brew you could score in DC was its famous IPA. Lately that’s been changing, with more varieties slowly making their way over from California. That all changes tonight, when the brewery takes over Churchkey’s taps, offering 55 different beers all night—a record for the most varieties available from the brewery at one event. Dare you to try them all. Free. 4 PM.
Tuesday, June 5
Step aside, Big Cheese Truck: Ripple is trying to one up you with the launch of its artisanal grilled cheese bar. You won’t find a Kraft single here: Cheese varieties include Winnimere, house-made mozzarella, Taleggio, and more paired with prosciutto, lump crab meat, and mushrooms. From 5 till 6:30, wash it all down with a half-price beer. 5 PM.
Wednesday, June 6
With the way you’ve been looking ripped lately, we know you spend plenty of working out along with Tony Horton’s P90X videos. Like he’s done for members of Congress, Horton is hosting a live workout sesh, this time at Yards Park near Nationals Stadium. Bring your family for the 5:30 PM workout, or show up at 6:45 for a more intense adult workout. Free. 5:30 and 6:45 PM.
Thursday, June 7
Not to say that opera can be a stuffy affair—but isn’t it time to let it get some air? Beacon Hotel is hosting Opera Rendezvous, a rooftop bar performance by opera duo José Sacin and Ernesto Bravo. After they show off their pipes, DJ Fotifo, who uses video game controllers to spin music instead of a turntable, will perform. Tickets ($10) are available online. 5 PM to midnight.
