What to Do This Week: November 12 to 15
Do some bar trivia for a cause, hit the National Press Club’s book fair, and see your favorite Olympic gymnasts perform.
Monday, November 12
TRIVIA: Hope you’re fully recovered from whatever you did this weekend, because you’ll need every last remaining brain cell for trivia at Acre 121 in Columbia Heights. All ticket proceeds will go to study cystic fibrosis or encourage youth fitness. Entry includes a raffle ticket—you can win prizes such as apartment cleaning, tickets to a Who Wants to Be A Millionaire taping (they still do that?), gift cards around town, and a test drive in one of those fancy Tesla electric cars. Trivia winners get $50 off their bar tab and $40 to use on an Uber ride home. Tickets ($10) are available online. 8 PM.
Tuesday, November 13
BOOKS: More than 90 authors, including Rand Paul, David Maraniss, and Thomas Mann, will be on hand at the National Press Club’s 35th annual Book Fair. Authors will sign their books, and you’ll get to meet some of your favorite authors and journalists (excluding me). Tickets ($10) are available online. 5:30 PM.
Wednesday, November 14
BALLET: The San Francisco Ballet, one of the most revered ballet companies in the world (and the first professional outfit in the United States), is in town this week at the Kennedy Center performing a mix of Tchaikovsky, Strauss II, and pieces with original scoring. Tickets ($25 to $109) are available through the KenCen’s website. 7:30 PM.
7:30 PM, $25-$109
Thursday, November 15
GYMNASTICS: Both the US men’s and women’s gymnastic teams killed it in London this summer, and now they’re on a victory tour. Catch a dream team of recent and less-recent gymnasts perform as part of the Kellogg’s Tour of Gymnastics Champions. Participants include Gabby Douglas, Nastia Liukin, Aly Raisman, Jordyn Wieber, Jonathan Horton, Jake Dalton, and lots more. McKayla (who will also be there, duh) is most definitely impressed. Tickets ($25 to $75) are available through Ticketmaster. 7:30 PM.
