Monday, January 11

Starting today, nearly 200 restaurants around Washington are gearing up for winter Restaurant Week, which continues through January 17 (and often longer). The semiannual culinary event will feature some of the city’s best-known restaurants dishing out three-course lunch menus for $20.10 and dinner menus for $35.10. Tuesday, January 12

Calling all sports-bar fans: Learn to craft the perfect burger, cook your own French fries, and whip up an unbeatable batch of Buffalo wings with “Men in the Kitchen: Making Foods That Men Love,” a hands-on cooking class at Open Kitchen (7115 Leesburg Pike, Falls Church). The three-hour course starts at 7 and costs $75 per person. For reservations and information, call 703-942-8148.
 

Wednesday, January 13

Learn how to go whole hog at with a pork-focused class at Zola Wine & Kitchen (505 Ninth St., NW). On the menu are ribs, pork chops, and quince sauce. The class, which starts at 6:30, costs $50 per person. For reservations and information, call 202-654-0999.

Thursday, January 14

Scotch lovers should consider reserving a table for a Glenlivet XXV dinner at Tuscana West (1350 I St., NW). The evening features a four-course Italian dinner paired with six vintages of Scotch. Glenlivet’s Scotch ambassador, Ricky Crawford, will be on hand to explain each variety’s characteristics. The dinner, which costs $130 per person, begins at 6. Kick off the weekend by closing your eyes as Vincent’s Wine Club—led by former Maestro sommelier Vincent Feraud—hosts a series of blind tastings at the Tysons Corner Ritz-Carlton (1700 Tysons Blvd., McLean). Saturday, January 16

Budding wine lovers can enroll in “Discovering Popular Grapes,” a beginners’ class at Food Matters. The tasting will detail the origins of Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Cabernet Sauvignon. The class includes tastings of four wines paired with food plus notes on each wine. Sunday, January 17

Stick around Bethesda and Chevy Chase for that area’s smaller (yet slightly more affordable) Restaurant Week, which runs from January 15 to 21.
