A Neighborhood Guide to Bars and Restaurants Staying Open During Sandy

Our continuously updated guide to businesses attempting to stay open despite the storm.

If you need food, drink, or power during Sandy, head to these places—all of which are hoping to stay open despite the storm. All of the information below either came directly from the restaurant or bar or was verified with the establishment. We’ll keep updating all day Monday and Tuesday. Also, check out the Twitter thread #OpeninDC for a list of District businesses weathering the storm.

DC

Adams Morgan

Bedrock Billiards: This pool hall remained open through Monday night and plans to do so Tuesday as well.

Cashion’s Eat Place: Open for dinner Tuesday.

Mintwood Place: Opens at 5:30 Tuesday.

Tryst and the Diner next door are open Monday and running a $5 hurricane shandy special. The restaurants reopened at 10 AM Tuesday.

Bloomingdale

Boundary Stone: Try the wings! The restaurant/bar opens at noon on Tuesday.

Capitol Hill

Art and Soul: Open and serving Monday in the Liaison Hotel. Open during normal hours on Tuesday.

Acqua al 2: The Italian eatery will be seating until around 8 PM Monday—there will be a limited staff and menu. It reopens Tuesday at 5:30.

Belga Cafe: Open at 5 on Tuesday for dinner service.

Cava Mezze: Opens for dinner at 5 PM Tuesday.

Johnny’s Half Shell: Open for dinner Tuesday.

Pitango Gelato: Open on Tuesday.

Cleveland Park

Dino: Opens at 6 PM on Tuesday.

Nanny O’Briens: Open at noon serving lunch, dinner, and $5 hurricanes on Monday. The pub quiz begins at 8 PM on Tuesday and the $5 hurricanes happen all over again beginning at 5.

Palena: Dinner will be served Tuesday in the cafe but the dining room is closed.

Ripple: Open during normal hours on Tuesday.

Columbia Heights

The Coupe: The new business from the Tryst folks will be offering $5 hurricanes all day Monday.

The Heights: Open Tuesday and serving lunch (also Bloody Marys).

Meridian Pint: Plans to open at 5 PM Monday and remain open until “it is unsafe to do so.”

Room 11: Open at 5 PM Tuesday.

Sticky Fingers Sweets & Eats: Grab a veggie Cuban sandwich before 2 PM Monday. Open during regular hours on Tuesday.

Downtown

Bread & Brew Open for lunch until 2 PM Monday. Tuesday, it opens at 4 with $5 hurricanes and dark and stormies, plus—watch out—$1 jello shots.

Equinox is open Tuesdy with a special Eastern Shore-sourced bouillabaisse.

Hill Country: Open and offering happy hour drink specials all day Tuesday.

Dupont Circle

The Big Hunt: An excellent beer selection and jukebox are ready and waiting—this Connecticut Avenue watering hole opened at 5 on Monday.

Eola: Open for dinner tonight and offering the à-la-carte menu along with its five-course dinner.

Kramerbooks & Afterwords Cafe: The cafe will close at 4 PM Monday with hopes of reopening at 11 AM Tuesday. Update: The cafe will open at noon on Tuesday. The bookstore is open for business.

Scion: Opens at 11:30 AM Tuesday with all-day happy hour (half-price draft beers, $5 wine, $4 rails, $6 cocktails).

Tabard Inn: Oh man, good cocktail alert. Tabard Inn is open for dinner Monday.

14th Street/Logan Circle

Bar Pilar: In honor of the storm, happy hour goes long on Monday at this cocktail destination—head there before 8 for discounts on its tasting offerings.

El Centro: Open for dinner Tuesday night.

Masa 14: Open for dinner Tuesday night.

Pearl Dive Oyster Palace: Open Tuesday.

Pitango Gelato: Open on Tuesday.

Georgetown and Glover Park

Bangkok Joe’s: Open until 3 PM Monday; closed for lunch on Tuesday. Update: The restaurant is closed Tuesday due to the Potomac’s high water levels.

Bandolero: Open at 4 Tuesday and offering the Bandido happy hour in the bar area from 4 to 10.

Bistrot Lepic: Opens Tuesday at 5:30 and is offering a special wine tasting at the bar.

Bourbon Steak: Open Monday. Open Tuesday.

iL Canale: Open Tuesday from 11:30 AM to 10:30 PM.

Mayfair & Pine: Opened at 3 on Tuesday.

Old Glory: Open for lunch Tuesday, hoping to be open for dinner as well.

Stachowski’s: Open Tuesday.

H Street NE

Biergarten Haus: Opened at 4 PM. Trivia night is cancelled but you can have a cold one on the covered and heated half of the patio.

Boundary Road: Fancy an after lunch cocktail? The bar opened early at this H street bistro. The full menu will be available beginning at 5:30 Monday. Tuesday, the bar will be offering happy hour all day.

Granville Moore’s: Open Monday and “filling up fast,” according to its Twitter feed. Tuesday, the restaurant opens at 5. Head there before 7 for a happy hour featuring half-price drafts, discounted appetizers, and $8 burgers or half orders of mussels.

The Pug: Opened early Monday (at noon).

Toki Underground: Tuesday, the super-popular ramen spot will open at 12:30 for a special lunch service and keep serving until it is out of soup.

Mount Vernon Square

Sixth Engine: Happy hour goes all night long Monday at this handsome bar and restaurant housed in a former Mass. Ave. firehouse. Tuesday, the restaurant is open again beginning at 4:30 and featuring half price wines.

The Passenger: Tiki Tuesday will be happening at this cocktail bar across from the convention center.

Tel’veh: Open and offering half-price bottles of wine and $1 happy hour oysters from 4:30 to 7:30.

Penn Quarter and Gallery Place

Graffiato: Open at 5 for dinner on Tuesday.

Jaleo: Will open at 5 on Tuesday.

Matchbox: Open and serving pizza and drinks only until 4, when the full menu will be on offer.

Oyamel: Opens at 5 Tuesday with a special “post-Sandy” menu.

Pitango Gelato: Open on Tuesday.

Zengo: Open for dinner Tuesday.

Shaw

Sandwich craving? Sundevich opens today at noon on Monday as usual.

Southwest/Waterfront

Sou’Wester: The Mandarin Oriental’s southern-food spot plans to stay open for lunch and dinner Monday.

Thomas Circle

Madison Hotel: PostScript and the Lobby Bar are both open.

U Street Corridor

Ben’s Chili Bowl: Open and serving Monday.

The Brixton: Opens at 5 on Tuesday.

Duffy’s Irish Pub: Open and offering $5 hurricanes Monday.

Upper Northwest

BlackSalt: Opening a little later than usual for lunch Tuesday; regular dinner service. The fish market is also open.

Chef Geoff’s: Open for business Tuesday.

Westend and Foggy Bottom

Blue Duck Tavern: Open Monday for lunch and dinner. 

Circle Bistro: Open Tuesday for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Bar service is available in the lounge.

District Commons: Serving lunch, no decision on dinner yet. UPDATE: District Commons closed for dinner Monday and Tuesday lunch

Founding Farmers: Open until 11 PM Tuesday.

Notti Bianche: The restaurant at the George Washington University Inn is open on Tuesday.

Woodley Park

Open City: As at sister restaurants Tryst, the Coupe, and the Diner, staffers will be serving up $5 hurricane shandies on Monday.

Bastille: Open during lunch but closing for Monday dinner.

Eamonn’s: Open during normal hours on Tuesday.

Society Fair Open with usual hours Tuesday.

Restaurant Eve: Open for lunch, possibly dinner. Open with usual hours Tuesday.

Taqueria El Poblano: Open until 3 Monday.

Virtue Feed & Grain: Open during normal hours on Tuesday.

Arlington

Cava Mezze: Opens for dinner at 5 PM Tuesday.

Eamonn’s and TNT Bar: Open with normal hours on Tuesday.

Liberty Tavern: Open Monday for lunch.

Lyon Hall: Opens at 3 on Tuesday.

Northside Social Open Monday. Opens at 11:30 AM on Tuesday.

Pete’s New Haven Style Apizza: Hopes to open at 3 or 4 Tuesday.

Taqueria El Poblano: Open as usual until further notice.

Tutto Bene: There is no  lunch buffet at this Italian eatery Monday, but it will be open and serving from the menu until 4.

Union Jack’s of Ballston will stay open unless the restaurant loses power, an employee said Monday.

Reston Town Center

Clyde’s: Open Tuesday.

Pitango Gelato: Open on Tuesday.

Tysons Corner

Pinkberry: If you must have your fro-yo fix, get it at the Tysons Corner Center—all other area Pinkberries will be closed.

BGR the Burger Joint: Open Tuesday.

Black’s Bar and Kitchen: Open for lunch and dinner Tuesday.

Chicken on the Run: The Elmo Ave. roasted chicken spot plans to keep regular hours Monday.

Jaleo: Reopens at 5 on Tuesday.

Union Jack’s of Bethesda: Head to this Saint Elmo Street spot for half-price burgers and hurricanes on Monday evening. The Columbia location is closing at 4 PM.

BGR the Burger Joint: Open Tuesday.

Lunchbox: Bryan Voltaggio’s fast-casual spot is serving up salads, sandwiches, and soups for lunch Monday.

Volt: Open Tuesday beginning at 5:30 with a three-course $35 menu.

Black Market Bistro: Open for lunch and dinner Tuesday.

Rockville and Potomac

Addie’s: Open for lunch and dinner Tuesday.
