Some Opening Dates for Edgar Bar & Kitchen

The restaurant and bar in the Mayflower Renaissance hopes to return to its previous status as a “see and be seen” spot.

Edgar Bar & Kitchen, the new establishment at the Mayflower Renaissance hotel at 1127 Connecticut Avenue, Northwest, will open for dinner on December 13, a restaurant rep reported to us Thursday. The 14th will be the first day for breakfast and lunch service.

Named for J. Edgar Hoover, who famously took his daily lunch at the Mayflower, Edgar will be all about “cocktail culture,” according to the rep, and a separate menu in the “very large bar area” will feature small and shared plates to pair with spins on classic cocktails and infused liquors. The plan is to return the lounge to the “see and be seen” status it enjoyed before closing for renovations in early 2011.

As previously reported by Eater DC, Fairmont alum Andrew Morrison is the executive chef at Edgar, and will oversee the European/American menu in the two dining rooms, bar, reading room, and private dining room. Designed by AvroKo, a New York firm, the restaurant will feature marble bar tops and subway tiles, per Eater.

Edgar begins taking reservations on November 28.
