Cupcake wars: Wired shares video of a tank at the Pentagon that's made of cupcakes. Before anyone starts grumbling about misused tax dollars, ABC News has it that the confections were donated by Georgetown Cupcake. [Wired] [ABC News]

Because it would die, see: “You wouldn’t think of watering a plant with soda.” Michelle Obama doled out wisdom and plenty of high-fives in the DC-set episode of Restaurant: Impossible. [Grub Street]

POTUS got the memo: The President’s recent photo-op trip to Kenny’s BBQ Smokehouse may have found him digging into some artery-clogging rib meat, but while his companions sipped soda, he wisely stuck to bottled water. [HuffPo]

Better without bacon?: While much of the food media spent the week ruminating over what Burger King’s new pork-fat-enhanced sundae means to society, the City Paper’s Jessica Sidman got smart and just ate the damn thing. [WCP]

TV news magic: WUSA9 headed down to a Georgia Avenue Subway that was cited for storing meats and seafood salads at improper temperatures. While the reporter interviewed a customer out front, the store manager came out and instructed the guy to say nice things about the sandwiches. [WUSA9]

Who could it be now?: Eater DC caught a blind-item tweet from Washington Post critic Tom Sietsema in which he (kinda) calls out a Top Chef alum for opening lots of new restaurants with bad food. [Eater DC]

Speaking of Top Chef: Seattle food bloggers are feeling pretty confident that their city will be hosting the next season of Bravo’s culinary-challenge juggernaut, though they may have to share the spotlight with Portland, the so-called Brooklyn of the West. According to a commenter on one post, the show starts shooting in two weeks, so stay tuned. (And if you have any info on Washington-area contestants, send it our way, please.)
