Red Apron Opens Sunday in the Mosaic District

Sunday, March 10, marks the debut of the newest location from Neighborhood Restaurant Group butchery and meaty-prepared-foods vendor Red Apron. 

Along with charcuterie by chef Nathan Anda, the shop in the new retail village will offer burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches, and prepared items such as Bolognese sauce, duck confit, and meatloaf. Diners can order sandwiches like the porkstrami, muffaletta, or our personal favorite—meatball—to eat in the restaurant or carry out. The aforementioned items are popular options at the Red Apron stall in Union Market; the Mosaic space will offer new items, as well, including a roast turkey with ricotta and apple mostarda sandwich and pastrami on pumpernickel with red cabbage slaw. New hot sandwiches include a Cuban and roast pork with provolone, peppers, and white balsamic aïoli. And look out for a burger with pancetta, sherry aïoli, and tomato marmalade. The Mosaic location will also offer specialty dogs such as the Joey Bag-a-Donuts, a provolone-stuffed Italian sausage dog with Calabrian aïoli and hot pickled pepper relish. Those in the market for meat can pick up locally processed, humanely raised pork along with premium beef and poultry. Cooked charcuterie items include aged salumi, mortadella, and chorizo; there is also cured lardo, tasso, and prosciutto.

This is the second storefront for Red Apron, best known for its local farmers market presence; a third location opens in Penn Quarter this spring. NRG also runs a Red Apron commissary behind Union Market.

The new shop joins Taylor Gourmet, Dolcezza, and Sweetgreen—along with other food and retail vendors—at the new NoVa village, which is anchored by a Target and the Angelika Film Center. On the way are a restaurant from Rogue 24 chef R.J. Cooper and a Matchbox outpost—the latter is due to debut later this month.
