While digging up some dirt on Top Chef DC contestants, we found out that the Baltimore-based Timothy Dean was in some financial hot water with a project at National Harbor. This week, there are reports of yet another lawsuit, this one to the tune of $8 million. That’s on top of a $17 million tangle from last December. If he wins Top Chef, looks like that fat reward will go to lawyers’ fees.

A few weeks ago, we heard that Tackle Box—the upscale fish shack in Georgetown—was set to open another location in a former McDonald’s in DC’s Cleveland Park. But yesterday, Prince of Petworth noticed that DC Diner is listed as the applicant on a liquor-renewal form in the window. Which place would you rather see go into the space?

Hill Country, a barbecue restaurant with plans to open in DC’s Penn Quarter—and yet another New York City import—won’t be done until the end of the year at the earliest, despite earlier reports that its debut date was supposed to be June 15. The restaurant is owned by Bethesda-bred Marc Glosserman.

Up next in the Washington-reality-show lineup: TLC’s D.C. Cupcakes, a six-episode gig for the sister-owners of Georgetown Cupcake, which debuts next Friday. The network has some short trailers on its Web site. Check out the major drama of running a small business, including employees crying (gasp!), Valentine’s Day mania (no more red velvet? scandalous!), and sibling rivalry (we anticipate chocolate frosting flying). TLC is airing two episodes for the premiere, and we can’t disagree with Tim Carman when he guesses the reason for the double whammy: “ . . . air these suckers while people still care.” After watching two clips, we’re done.

We, the Pizza is so close to opening, we can basically taste the buffalo-chicken pies. It’s the Italian joint from Spike Mendelsohn, who also owns the neighboring burger business, Good Stuff Eatery. Capital Spice got in there to snap some pictures, and the menu is online (we’ll take an order of spicy wings, a meatball sub, and a scoop of s’mores gelato). But! It won’t open until July 19, a week later than we originally heard.
