This Week’s Food Events: The Chef’s Best Dinner & Auction and a Garden Party at the Ritz
Plus: Great Lakes at Dino and a cocktail class with Catoctin Creek.
Raw Fish, Cold Brews: Sushi-Ko Chevy Chase is pairing a few of its classics—think truffled flounder carpaccio and soy-roasted duck—with a lineup of local and international craft beers on Tuesday at 7 PM ($85 per person, all-inclusive). Call 301-961-1644 to reserve a spot soon, as space is limited.
Road Trip Alert: Farm to Fork Loudoun begins Tuesday with more than 21 “culinary sites” where you can sample foods made with at least 70 percent local ingredients. See the website for details on the 11-day event.
Big-Time Benefit: The 22nd annual Chef’s Best Dinner & Auction, a fundraiser for the nonprofit Food & Friends, is on Tuesday, and a slew of top-tier chefs are supplying the eats. Tickets start at $250.
Sunshine and Spirits: J&G Steakhouse hosts a Summertime Cocktail Summit on Wednesday at 6:30. Catoctin Creek distillery general manager Scott Harris will be on hand to talk spirits and show you how to make alluringly named cocktails like the Cool Hand Cuke and the Sweet, Sassy Susan. Tickets go for $41 online.
Great Lakes in Cleveland Park: Dino throws its second beer dinner with Great Lakes Brewing Company on Thursday at 6:30, pairing dishes such as caprese salad and seafood stew with the Cleveland-based brews. Call the restaurant to book a space for the $55 six-course dinner; reservations must be made with a credit card.
Change for Fare: Local author Katherine Gustafson leads a talk on the “positive side of the food movement” with fellow activists at the Sixth & I Historic Synagogue, based on her new book, Change Comes to Dinner. The event begins Thursday at 7; tickets start at $10 online.
Bigger Brews: If you didn’t get enough Port City action on Thursday, head to the Alexandria-based brewery on Sunday between noon and 6 to celebrate its newly expanded tasting room. Additions include a second bar, an express growler-filling station, and full-size pints (you can still get sample sizes, as well). Enjoy those alongside live music and hot cheese from the Big Cheese truck. Admission is free; beers, sandwiches, and tours are not.
Ritzy Garden Party: You don’t have to be a guest at the Ritz-Carlton in Georgetown to sip summery cocktails and half-price bottles of wine in the outdoor garden, where a weekly series of Sunday parties starts this week from 4 to 10 PM. Deejays, deviled eggs, and the boozy Skippy Surprise await.
