Well, folks, our long adventure of pizza panic is over! After leaving the Pizza Pool final open for the past week, it's time to announce a winner: Flippin' Pizza has taken the title over RedRocks Pizzeria with 54 percent to 46 percent. Congrats to both of the finalists, and to all 32 of the excellent pizza spots that competed in this bracket.

We do want to address a few comments that have been brought up over the course of this competition. First, it is important to realize that the pizzerias that advanced in the brackets are not endorsed by The Washingtonian as being the best pizza in the area; instead, these are reader-selected spots.

The Pizza Pool has reached the finals! Vote now to make sure your favorite wins.

UPDATE: This poll is now closed. Flippin' Pizza won! We will have a follow-up post about the Pizza Pool soon!

Well, folks, here we are. The Pizza Pool finals. When we first started the Pizza Pool back yonder (as in, late July), despite our experiences with the Burger Brackets, we still held on to certain preconceived notions about who would advance and even win. Pizzeria Paradiso? Surely. Comet Ping Pong? Without a doubt. 2 Amys? Naturally!

But, once again, our expectations were bested by loyal fans of pizza joints all over the greater metropolitan area. And as of Wednesday, the Pizza Pool came down to a Columbia Heights showdown between Pete's New Haven Apizza and RedRocks, and a face-off between Gallery Place spot Ella's and national chain Flippin' Pizza.

And now? We have our finalists! Check below to read about them, and to cast your vote. We'll be keeping this vote open extra-long (until noon on Thursday, September 10) so you have plenty of time to spread the word far and wide.
