Monday, January 5
Slow Food DC presents an evening of braised comfort food at Zola (800 F St., NW). The event includes a tour of the kitchen, a talk by chef Bryan Moscatello about the history and lore of braising, and a meal highlighting the cooking technique. Guests will receive a complimentary glass of wine, a copy of one of Moscatello’s favorite recipes, and tips on braising at home. Tuesday, January 6

Head to ACKC Cocoa Bar (1529 14th St., NW) for a two-hour chocolate-truffle-making class at 6:30. Call 202-387-2626 or click here for reservations; $35 per person.  

Wednesday, January 7
Tuscarora Mill (203 Harrison St., Leesburg) hosts a Beers of Winter tasting which includes samples of Samuel Smiths Winter Welcome, Sierra Celebration, and Troegs Mad Elf. Friday, January 9

The cider happy hour at Equinox (818 Connecticut Ave., NW) has officially switched to a chocolate theme. Creative cocoa-accented cocktails and complimentary snacks will be offered at the bar every Friday through March 20th. The happy hour runs from 5 to 7. Reservations are not required. Saturday, January 10

Learn about the history of Scotch during a tasting of the spirit at DC Coast (1401 K St., NW). Wine and beverage director Scott Clime will lead the afternoon tasting, which runs from 1 to 3. For reservations, call 202-408-0201; $75 per person.

Sunday, January 11

Tired of cooking for your kids? Maybe it’s time to teach them a few skills. Old Town's La Cuisine (323 Cameron St., Alexandria) presents “Asian New Year,” a class for children aged seven to 11.
