Table to Table: The Week in Food Events

Restaurant week extensions, an end-of-the-summer block party, and a fall-themed cooking class.

Monday, August 31
Sad you missed Restaurant Week? Don’t be—we’ve rounded up all the places extending the offer here.

Tuesday, September 1

The Fish Market (105-107 King St., Alexandria) in Old Town will celebrate its recent remodeling tonight in a big way. Starting at 4, guests can watch an oyster-eating contest, sample from the menu at the newly added Anchor Bar, sip on $2 house drafts, and enjoy 1980s seafood prices on today’s catches, all to the sound of live music. For more information, call 703-683-1135 or click here.

Wednesday, September 2
Get an early start on autumn with a class on designing a fall menu, a Zola Wine & Kitchen (505 Ninth St., NW) . Chef Bryan Moscatello leads you through basic knife and butchery skills, gives tips on presentation, and designs a black-cod-focused menu. Register here for the 90-minute class—$50 per person—which includes hands-on class participation, a two-to-three course meal, and a glass of wine.

Thursday, September 3

Wine, cheese, and . . . basketball? The Washington Mystics offer “A Taste-Off Before Tip-Off” prior to tonight’s game against the Seattle Storm. From 5 to 7, Cowgirl Creamery and Corcoran Vineyards dole out samples in the Verizon Center’s Dewar’s Club, and the first 200 guests get a free wineglass. Tickets ($35) include admission to the event as well as stadium seats. Call 202-527-7517 for more information.

Friday, September 4

Escape the city with historic Leesburg’s town-wide First Friday event, where more than 35 specialty shops, galleries, and restaurants offer special demonstrations, live music, and free refreshments. Hit the Pink Shop (109 S. King St.) to hear guitarist Don Chapman and sample wine from Village Winery, then continue winetasting at Leesburg Vintner (29 S. King St.) and Otter Creek (10 S. King St.). Flow Yoga (third floor of Market Station) is throwing a free-beer-and-yoga happy hour, and you can sing along to “beer-drinking shanty songs” at Döner Bistro (202 Harrison St., SE). A complete rundown of the night’s events is available here.

Saturday, September 5

Start the long weekend off right at Old Ebbitt Grill’s first annual block party. Tickets—$75 when purchased online, $85 at the door—get you five food and five beverage vouchers, but if you bring a canned food item, you’ll get another free drink ticket. Fare for the evening includes burgers, crabcake sandwiches, and mixed-berry shortcake plus beer, wine, and frozen cocktails. The party, which also features a Bruce Springsteen cover band, runs from 6 to 11. Click here for more information.

Sunday, September 6

Already mastered the art of homemade curry? Take the meal one step further with Sur la Table’s (1101 S. Joyce St., Arlington) hands-on “Indian Breads at Home” class. Edward Hamman demonstrates recipes for chapati, aloo paratha, garlic naan, and poori plus mango chutney, red-lentil daal, and sweet-yogurt mousse. The class, $69 per person, begins at 11.
