So it’s not the snowpocalypse, but those wet flakes still make for unpleasant conditions. You could cook a comforting meal—and we have plenty of recipes from local restaurants—or you could be lazy. You know, crack open a bottle of wine, put on sweats, and order something delicious to your doorstep lazy.
Here are a dozen restaurants for you to try, plucked from our Cheap Eats list and our stash of personal favorites. Don't see your favorite delivery options? Let us know about them in the comments.
Armand's Chicago Pizzeria
Many of us with fond memories of Armand’s thick-crust pizzas were sad to see the Tenleytown location shutter, but Rockville homebodies can get the indulgent doughy pies delivered to their door during the Maryland branch’s business hours Wednesday.
Fight the cold with spicy Thai fare from this Arlington spot, delivering all day. Recent favorites include fried tofu with chilies and basil, red shrimp curry, drunken noodles, and papaya salad.
Plenty of delivery pizza options exist, but you can switch it up with pide at upper Georgetown’s Turkish spot. The crusty rounds are topped with the likes of spicy Turkish sausage and kashar cheese or smoked eggplant and bell peppers.
City Lights of China
We love Peking duck. The crisp-skinned birds are like Chinese fried chicken, and this Dupont Circle stalwart delivers the dish with tender meat and crunchy skin. Insider tip: Though it’s not listed on the menu, you can order a half duck for half the price.
Great Wall Szechuan House
As you may have heard, the ma la menu is the way to go at 14th Street’s best Szechuan option. Hot chili peppers will make your mouth tingle in dishes like ma po tofu and dan dan noodles. More common fare such as the General Tso’s chicken isn’t super-foodie, but is still pretty tasty.
Lost Dog Cafe
The Arlington, McLean, and Dunn Loring branches of this popular pizza-and-sandwich venture can bring classic and creative pies to your door, from plain pepperoni to versions topped with garlicky crab.
Come dinnertime, one of our favorite Indian options starts delivery to the Tenleytown neighborhood and close surroundings. Gently spiced chicken makhani and warm naan sprinkled with rock salt and cilantro sound pretty tasty right about now.
Moby Dick House of Kebab
Call the Dupont Circle branch for tasty marinated chicken or ground beef kebabs, served over a warm bed of tasty rice or in freshly baked pita. Other locations may also serve homes through delivery services like GrubHub.
Unless conditions go downhill (and they may), all the Clarendon, Columbia Heights, and Friendship Heights New Haven-style ’za joints start slinging pies to your home at 5 PM. On a chilly day like today, we’re fans of the hearty Staven, topped with pepperoni, sausage, caramelized onions, and roasted garlic.
The Adams Morgan and Columbia Heights locations of the recently expanded Vietnamese restaurant are delivering steaming bowls of pho all day, along with crispy rolls and grilled pork vermicelli.
The Philly-style sandwich shop is keeping all locations except for Dupont Circle open Wednesday, so you can spread out on the couch amid a pile of tasty hoagies, risotto balls, and cutlet sandwiches.
Another Cheap Eats pick, this Rockville Indian restaurant delivers via services such as Takeout Taxi (the restaurant doesn’t have its own car fleet). Curries likely carry out best, such as paneer makhani and Persian lamb stew.
