Watch out, Filene’s: There’s a new sale in town. Goodwill of Greater Washington just announced the first Once-a-Year Goodwill Bridal Sale—to be held five days before the annual Filene’s hullabaloo.
On Sunday, March 30, brides in need of a dress and a deal—we’re talking nothing more than $400 and many less than $125—can head to Westfield Wheaton mall (11160 Veirs Mill Rd., Wheaton; 301-942-3200) at noon to hit racks of donated dresses from size 4 to 24 (all getting a gratis cleansing right now by Zips Dry Cleaners). The sale lasts until 4 PM or until the last dress is gone.
Will there be a line beforehand? Brendan Hurley, vice president of marketing and communications for Goodwill of Greater Washington, thinks so: “We’re running advertisements on local radio stations and promoting it heavily in each of our retail stores.” And are the dresses worth buying? I haven’t seen them, and Hurley so far hasn't found any couture in the mix, but—for the chance to get any pretty dress at those prices—I’d give this sale a shot. Plus, proceeds help fund job training programs for the disadvantaged and disabled.
If anything, go for novelty: The Greater Washington branch, which created the event, is the only Goodwill in the country hosting anything like this.
