Real Wedding: Katherine & Mark

Two former Hill staffers tie the knot in a black-tie celebration with a focus on great food.

When their jobs brought them into the same circles, both social and professional, Katherine Klimczak and Mark Antoniewicz, then staff assistants on Capitol Hill, realized they were on to something; neither could deny their budding chemistry. After many “unofficial first dates” at office happy hours, the couple had their “real” first date at the National Zoo, a spot now so dear to their hearts they return at least once a month. Three and a half years later, Mark, now a small-business specialist at the Department of Transportation, proposed to Katherine on Thanksgiving Day in his hometown of Madison, Wisconsin. “Mark is terrible at keeping secrets, but he did manage to surprise me,” says the bride, now a nutrition policy associate at the Center for Science and Public Interest. “However, he did tell everyone else but me beforehand.”

A black-tie wedding followed at the National Museum of Women in the Arts on September 8, 2012. Guests were served a locally sourced dinner from Well-Dunn Catering, and at the end of the night, the Rolling Ficelle food truck made an appearance, serving up sandwiches and snacks to close out the festivities.
