When we first took a look through the photos from Danai Mattison and Barak Sky’s September wedding at Park Hyatt Washington, our jaws dropped. Every shot from the formal affair was stunning–from the monochromatic florals to the dramatic train on Danai’s dress to the over-the-top flower wall that served as their ceremony site and decor for the reception. Longtime area locals with lots of little things in common—like the same tennis coach—Danai and Barak like to joke that they must have crossed paths before the fateful office happy hour that drew them together. “Wow,” thought Barak at first glance; Danai couldn’t help but notice how “handsome” and “charismatic” her fellow real-estate agent (they both work for Long & Foster) was. Easy conversation turned into a night of dancing in downtown DC, and the pair have been inseparable ever since.
Barak intended to propose during a getaway for their three-year anniversary, but when the setting didn’t prove to be special enough he opted for a sentimental locale: the same Ruth’s Chris Steak House where they met. There, he presented Danai with a hashtag-filled photo album. “#ourfutureistogether #iloveyou #lookup,” read the last page; Danai did, and found her future husband on bended knee.
At their classic white-and-gold wedding, Danai’s mother surprised the couple with a stunning “flower wall” they had earlier decided to eliminate from their budget. “It was out of a fairy tale or a movie,” says Barak of the night.
At the end of the night, the happy couple served popcorn and sent their guests home with cake pops with tags that read, “Hope you had a ball!”
