Every Friday, for some fun reading, we bring you the area's best Missed Connections on Craigslist.
Ahh, there’s nothing like an early morning Metro ride to kick off your day. Apparently, the dark, dingy tunnels over-crowded with people are a great place for romance. Or so says Craigslist’s Missed Connections. Each day plenty of people post about that cutie with the iPod they saw while peering over their copy of Express. Maybe it’s the atmosphere, maybe it’s the hoards of people, but these couples never actually speak to each other. Luckily, we’ve got Missed Connections to give them a second chance. So here’s the best of this week’s Missed Connections: Metro Edition.

The Washington area seems to have grown into a swimming powerhouse, what with Beijing Olympians Katie Hoff,Kate Ziegler, and Michael Phelps all calling the area home. Now Washington may be adding a second water sport to its Olympic holdings: rowing. Two former McLean students will be competing for medals at the newly built Shunyi Olympic Rowing-Canoeing Park in Beijing.
Sam Stitt, 27, a local legend in high-school rowing, took up the sport as a sophomore at McLean High School, just one year after the program started. He later rowed at Rutgers and at the prestigious Henley Royal Regatta in Henley-on-Thames. After college, he returned to coach McLean’s freshman boys crew team.

Angry about the flagged Missed Connection from a woman who called out that perv? Yeah, you and every other Craigslist reader. We, of course, applaud her efforts, but it sure made wading through all the extra comments a pain. So here’s the five people who used Craigslist’s Missed Connections for its intended purposes.
A series of dispatches from Washington and the campaign trail.
AUSTIN, Texas—When the bloggers related to the progressive site DailyKos.com first gathered in 2006, the political landscape in the country was quite different. Democrats didn’t control any branch of government. The 2008 presidential campaign seemed wide open and the possibility that the freshman senator from Illinois with the funny name and big ears might enter the race wasn’t on anyone’s radar.
The blogger convention in Las Vegas, then called YearlyKos, was fiery and filled with the tensions of a new power base emerging in the party. Columnists like Maureen Dowd trooped out to the Riviera Hotel, on the seedy end of the Las Vegas strip, and Democratic leaders like Harry Reid spoke, albeit warily at times.
The environment this past weekend bespoke a new level of maturity and acceptance among the blogging crowd. This year’s location, the glassy and professional behemoth that is the Austin convention center, is best-known as the setting for tech’s biggest confab, the South by Southwest Interactive Festival, and the national press corps was mostly elsewhere. The bloggers are not news anymore.
The mortgage crisis might be taking a big financial toll on the nation, but one local builder hopes there’s still a buyer interested in a $6-million condo.
Is this view worth $6 million? Tell us in the comments.
Metropole, a 90-unit building in DC’s Logan Circle, is set to open next month—with its three-story penthouse sitting like a cherry on top. Area real-estate brokers say it’s likely the priciest condo on the market.
As designed, it’s a five-bedroom, six-bath unit with 4,600 square feet inside and 1,200 square feet of outdoor space. Two balconies and three terraces add to the amenities, which include a hot tub, fire pit, three parking spaces, and views of the monuments on the Mall. The penthouse has 26-foot living-room ceilings and a floating glass staircase connecting all three levels.
If you’re too busy to pick up the dry cleaning, get tickets to nearby Studio Theatre, or order flowers for Mom, don’t worry: Metropole’s concierge service has it covered.
Is the $6-million price too much? You can save a million by buying the condo as a shell and finishing it yourself.
If the penthouse doesn’t sell soon, the builder will bow to the reality of the market and break it up to sell as three individual units.
