November is a month that's all about tradition. Think Thanksgiving (and/or Friendsgiving), the Black Friday rush, the ubiquity of Christmas carols on every radio station. But let's be honest: The most important tradition is the one in which guys can stop shaving for charity. In honor of Movember—which seeks to raise awareness about men's health issues such as prostate cancer—we want to see the best upper-lip adornment you have to offer. Not growing one? Milk mustaches, fingerstaches, and the stick-on variety are also acceptable.

Washington is rife with opportunities to see art—in museums, standing in parks, and painted on walls all around DC—and even in a city this busy, it's worth remembering to stop and appreciate it once in a while. To that end, we'd like to see the pieces and places you return to again and again. If you don't have any current favorite artworks, find some new ones at these museum exhibits and gallery shows this month.

Show us your favorite neighborhood hangout. Photograph of Slipstream by Andrew Propp.

This week, the New York Times finally discovered what’s been obvious to Washingtonians for a long time: that DC’s dining scene goes far beyond “expense account steakhouses” and “cheap ethnic restaurants,” as our own Anna Spiegel pointed out on Best Bites. The point she did agree with? That the area “boasts more destination-worthy neighborhood haunts than ever.”

It’s a fact worth celebrating—and to that end, we want to see photos of your favorite local hangout. Whether it’s the mom ’n’ pop shop you head to every morning for coffee and your favorite breakfast sandwich, or the dive bar that’s your refuge after a long day of work, show us the places that make you glad to live in your neighborhood.

The start of fall brings with it the return of many wonderful things—football, your favorite television shows, an excuse to wear your comfiest pair of boots. And this month we're excited to announce we're bringing back another favorite: Washingtonian's Photo Contests.

To refresh your memory, we pick a different theme each time, and shutterbug readers submit a photo they've taken that exemplifies it. The best photo will be featured on our website. Rinse, repeat.

This week, we'd like to see how you're spending the last warm days before fall sets in. Share photos of beach days, great outdoor cookouts, or anything that highlights your final days of summer. If you need inspiration, take a look through our Photo Contest archives

Submit your photos by e-mailing photocontest@washingtonian.com or by tagging #WashMagPhoto on Instagram or Twitter. Please include where the photo was taken and your name with each submission. We'll highlight our favorite photo on Monday, September 15.
