The big news this week is the change-up in the US Solicitor General’s office. First, former acting Solicitor General Neal Katyal, who resigned from the office at the end of the last Supreme Court term, is reportedly heading to Hogan Lovells. Secondly, one of O’Melveny & Myers’ star appellate partners, Srikanth Srinivasan, has been named principal deputy solicitor general—the number two job in the Solicitor General’s office. It won’t be Srinivasan’s first time serving there. As a young lawyer, he won a coveted year-long Bristow Fellowship in the office, and then from 2002 to 2007, he served as an assistant to the solicitor general.
Davis Polk welcomed Howard Shelanski as counsel in its antitrust practice. He was most recently deputy director of the Bureau of Economics at the Federal Trade Commission.
Jason Levine joined Vinson & Elkins as a partner in the complex commercial litigation practice. He was previously head of the trial practice group at McDermott Will & Emery.
John Sheehan, who most recently practiced at Hunton & Williams, has moved to Clark Hill, where he focuses on environmental litigation and enforcement defense.
Hunton & Williams also lost two lawyers to Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld. Thomas Trimble, previously co-head of Hunton’s renewable energy practice, and partner Jeremy Schwer, both joined Akin Gump as partners on the project finance and renewable energy teams.
