The richest person in DC, Maryland, and Virginia is candy heiress Jacqueline Mars, with a net worth of $13.8 billion, according to the 2012 list of the world’s billionaires assembled by Forbes. Read it and weep.
Maryland scores the most billionaires of the three, with Mitch Rales, cofounder of the Danaher manufacturing company ($3.7 billion); Washington Nationals owner Ted Lerner ($3.3); Carlyle Group cofounder David Rubenstein ($2.8); hospitality heir Richard Marriott ($1.7); his brother, Bill Marriott Jr.($1.6); Baltimore Ravens owner Stephen Bisciotti ($1.4); and Under Armour’s Kevin Plank, real estate mogul Bernard Saul II, and Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder ($1.1 each).
Virginia, in addition to Mars, has Carlyle Group cofounder William Conway Jr. ($2.8); Daniel D’Aniello ($2.8), also of the Carlyle Group; SC Johnson & Sons heiress Winnie Johnson-Marquart ($2.5), who lives in Virginia Beach; pharmaceutical entrepreneur Randal Kirk ($2.4); and AOL cofounder Steve Case ($1.5).
In the District, there’s only one billionaire listed: Mitch Rales’s brother and business partner, Steven, with $3.3 billion.
