Power Players: Tougher Track

The verdict is in: It’s gotten harder to make partner. Law-firm promotions dropped—or at best stagnated—in 2009, and for the most part the trend continues. Here’s a look at the 2010 partner-class sizes for some of the largest and highest-earning law offices in Washington.

Hogan & Hartson:Seven new partners in Washington, up from two in 2009.

Latham & Watkins:Six, up from one last year.

down

Arnold & Porter:One in 2010 compared with four in 2009. However, the firm promoted one lawyer in its Northern Virginia office, where it had no promotions in 2009.

Crowell & Moring:Four, down from six.

Howrey:One, down from two.

Steptoe & Johnson:None, compared with one last year.

WilmerHale:Three, down from four.

This year’s partner classes at Williams & Connolly and Akin Gump remained the same as last year, with six new partners at Williams & Connolly, two at Akin.
