Arrest Made in Ebony Franklin Murder; World Fails to Come to An End: Morning Links

Father of Ebony Franklin Arrested for Her Murder: DC Police Chief Cathy Lanier made the announcement Saturday night: Rodney McIntyre, the father of slain 17-year-old Ebony Franklin, has been arrested and charged in the stabbing death of his daughter. Franklin's body was discovered last winter in a dumpster in the Columbia Heights neighborhood. Lanier also said police have evidence that there was a "sexual relationship" between father and daughter, but as DC Homicide Watch points out, shouldn't she have said incest or rape instead of "relationship"? Preakness Draws Record Crowds. Thanks, Kegasus? The crowd at Saturday’s Preakness Stakes was about 10 percent larger than last year, according to race officials, and organizers are giving much of that credit to Kegasus, the tacky/awesome half-man, half-horse mascot introduced this year. [WAMU]

Unfortunate Typo on Georgetown Commencement Program: Congratulations to the graduating class of 2011 at Georgetown University (and the graduates from all other local colleges, for that matter), who successfully completed their commencement exercises over the weekend. Too bad the prestigious school somehow managed to misspell "Univeristy" on the graduation programs. Georgetown officials plan to offer revised programs to all graduates. [Washington Post]

Arlington Considering Banning Small Children from Dog Parks: Citing safety concerns, the Arlington County Parks Department is considering making it a crime to bring a child under the age of eight into one of the county's dog parks. [Examiner]

Montgomery County Storm Clean-Up Costs Major $: No big surprise here, but clean-up from major storms over the past year has led Montgomery County to draw down its reserve funds to the tune of $54 million, not a welcome piece of news for the cash-strapped county. [Examiner]
