There's a lot of discussion about the hostage situation at the Discovery Channel headquarters. We're following the news closely on our Twitter feed, and will have a longer post later in the day. If you have information, please tweet at us (we're @washingtonian) or Direct Message us.

For those of you not following the situation, at 12:55, James Lee, who has a handgun and metal cannisters, potentially explosive devices, entered the Discovery Channel headquarters in Silver Spring, Md., and took at least one hostage. An evacuation proceeded, and police say they believe that, besides an unknown number of hostages, everyone (including children at a first-floor daycare center) is out of the building, though it is possible others are still inside. Negotiations with Lee are ongoing.

Lee was arrested in 2008 in the course of anti-Discovery Channel protests; a manifesto he wrote online expresses extreme ecological beliefs.
