Secret Service Director Retiring

Mark Sullivan led the agency since 2006 and has been dogged by questions about a prostitution scandal.

Mark Sullivan, the Director of the Secret Service, will retire effective February 23, according to a Secret Service spokesman. Sullivan has led the agency since 2006.
Sullivan’s tenure has lately been beset by controversy. Last April, more than a dozen Secret Service personnel were implicated in a prostitution scandal during a Presidential visit to Cartagena, Colombia. Sullivan has faced persistent questions from lawmakers over whether prostitution is tolerated within the ranks of the Secret Service, something he had consistently denied. That matter is currently being investigated by the Homeland Security Department’s Inspector General.
Sullivan has also faced questions about whether he gave accurate and complete testimony about the scandal before Congress last year.
During his tenure, Sullivan supervised more than 20 special national security events, as well as the two inaugurations of President Obama. He has served in the agency for three decades.
