Ski Prices Go Downhill
Where: Liberty Mountain Hotel, 78 Country Club Trail, Carroll Valley, Pa.; 717-642-8282
What’s special: An easy, 70-mile drive from DC, Liberty Mountain resort has undergone many changes including acquiring neighboring Carroll Valley Resort. The resort now has 99 hotel rooms, additional dining options, new rental ski equipment, a redesigned rental shop, and additional automated snow-making guns. The mountain features 16 trails and six chairlifts for skiing and snowboarding and 15 lanes for snow tubing including a separate tubing hill for children ages four and under.
The deal: The Midweek Ski and Stay Package includes a hotel room, breakfast, a lift ticket valid from 3 PM the day of arrival until 5 PM the following day, and 50 percent off rentals during that same period. The price of $126.50 a person a night—a $41 savings off regular rates—is based on minimum double occupancy, and packages must be paid in full and in advance. Additional people ages 12 and older are $10 a night, and kids under age 12 are free if they stay in the same room. Any extra people in the room receive 10 percent off lift tickets and rental equipment. Mention The Washingtonian when booking and also receive a free hot chocolate.

Making a Splash at the Inner Harbor

What’s special: This new Kimpton hotel is located in the landmark Baltimore & Ohio Railroad building, built in 1906. The lobby features the original marble floor and Tiffany stained-glass windows, and every guest room has restored classic Beaux Arts details. The Hotel Monaco has a fitness center and in-room spa service, and it’s pet friendly. In the heart of downtown Baltimore, the hotel is four blocks from the Inner Harbor and all its attractions, including the National Aquarium, shops, and museums.
The deal: The Deal of the Decade package includes 20 percent off the hotel’s best available rate (from $129 to $309 a night), $11-a-day valet parking (normally $36 a day), a seasonal treat such as warm cider and cookies, and a complimentary wine reception each evening from 5 to 6. Relaxing in the Sunshine State

What’s special: Voted the second-best small hotel in the United States in the 2008 Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards, this 25-room boutique hotel is right on the ocean. The lodge offers a tranquil, casual elegance and personal service. Whether you want to rock away the day on the oceanfront porch or kayak the Intracoastal Waterway, the staff can make it happen. The Ocean House, one of several lodgings, is decorated in West Indies decor. A member of the Select Registry of inns, the lodge is 22 miles from Jacksonville on Amelia Island, which offers 13 miles of scenic beaches, fine dining, interesting shopping, and museums.
The deal: The lodge is offering a third night free when you arrive Sunday through Tuesday. Rates start at $210 and include a full breakfast, a morning newspaper, a wine and hors d’oeuvres reception each evening, and complimentary lemonade and cookies baked fresh daily.
