Travel News: Fall Edition
The weather is finally lovely in Washington, but there are still reasons to leave town
Today marks the beginning of the Denver Beer Fest, so if you’re lucky enough to have an all-inclusive JetBlue pass for the month, you might want to consider making a stop as the Mile High City is turned into the world’s largest beer garden for ten days. Brew-centric events include a running race tribute to David Hasselhoff (we hear he’s huge in Germany); a kickoff ceremony featuring Jim Koch, founder of Sam Adams; and a homebrew competition.
Although prices for international flights are up almost 30 percent from last year, this summer saw Iceland Express defy the trend (and make up for the havoc wreaked by Eyjafjallajökull) by offering flights from New York to multiple European destinations for $450 roundtrip, including taxes and fees. The service to London has now been extended through October, so you can still take advantage of the rock-bottom prices from Newark to Gatwick—and keep an eye out for cheap flights next summer, when the airline debuts new flights from London to Chicago and Boston.
Two more deals this week: Virgin America has another sale on nonstop flights from Washington to California. Each-way fares to San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, and Las Vegas start at $109 and top out at $129, valid from September 14 through November 17 (taxes are between $10 to $22 each way). Virgin America’s free inflight entertainment systems helped earn it the title of Best Domestic Airline from both Condé Nast Traveler and Travel + Leisure. The sale ends Monday, September 13.
And if you feel like hitting up the Big Easy, Fly.com has roundtrip flights from Baltimore to New Orleans starting at $169 through the end of the year. Taxes and fees are included, so pop open an Abita, grab some King Cake, and laisser les bon temps rouler.
