Green House In Arlington

By: Mary Clare Glover

This new house in Arlington is the first residential property in Virginia to earn LEED Platinum certification from the U.S. Building Council. Built by local homebuilder Metro Green, the 3,800 square-foot house is in North Arlington’s Westover neighborhood.

What makes the house so green? It has geothermal heating and cooling, solar power, loads of energy-efficient appliances, a green roof, and cisterns that can hold more than 500 gallons of rainwater. The builders predict that heating and cooling the four-bedroom, five-bath house for a year will only cost $305.
