Monday, December 7

Say Milk-Bone! The Washington Humane Society and Tysons Galleria (2001 International Dr., McLean; 703-827-7700) will host an evening of pet photos with Santa. The event runs from 7 to 9 on the shopping center’s lower level near Neiman Marcus. Fifteen percent of all photo sales will benefit the Washington Humane Society’s Fashion for Paws charity event.

Friday, December 11

It’s your pit bull’s lucky day! At the Washington Animal Rescue League’s (71 Oglethorpe St., NW) one-day free medical clinic, all pit bulls or pit-bull mixes will be spayed or neutered and given rabies, DHPP, and bordetella shots free of charge. The event will be run on a first-come, first-served basis, and no appointments are needed. Dogs undergoing the procedures shouldn’t be fed after 10 PM on Thursday, December 10, and should be dropped off at the League’s Medical Center between 8 and 9 AM.

Saturday, December 12

The Washington Animal Rescue League will host an adoption event at the Whole Foods in Silver Spring (833 Wayne Ave.,Silver Spring). Meet your potential new four-legged friend between 10 and 2.
Pets on Santa’s nice list and their families can enjoy Santa Paws Is Coming to Town, a holiday party thrown by Paws, Purrs, and Exotics Animal Hospital (133 South Peyton St., Alexandria) and Barkley Square. The party, which takes place at the hospital, will feature photos with Santa, dog and cat adoption with the Washington Humane Society, free snacks and drinks for people, and treats for dogs. The event costs $10 per person and runs from 1 to 4. Proceeds benefit the Washington Humane Society.

The seasonal fun continues at Lucky Dog Animal Rescue’s Holiday Party at Your Dog’s Best Friends (2000 Jefferson Davis Highway, Alexandria). The event includes refreshments, photos with Santa, and a dog play area. Photos with Santa are $20; the party is $10 per dog, free for people.

It’s the second Saturday of the month, and that means Yappy Hour at Chateaux-Animaux’s Capitol Hill location (524 Eighth St., SE). Free wine and cheese will be available for people and fresh baked Zanadoo Dog Biscuits for canine companions. A free pet-coaching seminar, courtesy of Doggy Lama, will look at pet safety during the holidays. The Washington Humane Society adoption van will also be on site. The free event runs from 6 to 8.

Sunday, December 13

Capital Cats will bring some of its favorite felines to Chateaux-Animaux (524 Eighth St., SE) for an adoption event from noon to 3.

Still looking for that purr-fect holiday gift? Julie Jordan, “chief critter whisperer” for Newton’s Paw will be at Chateaux-Animaux (524 Eighth St., SE) from 1 to 4 making keepsake ornaments from your dog or cat’s paw print. Jordan will take the impression in the store and have your one-of-a-kind ornament ready for pickup within a few days. Prices vary, and part of the proceeds go to the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria and YoKids.

The Dog Shop (1625 Wisconsin Ave, NW) in Georgetown will host an adoption event from noon to 2.
